The Orizzonti section at Venice Film Festival

Venice – the world’s longest running – Film Festival is renewing its Orizzonti section – set up in 2004 and dedicated to ‘new trends’ in world cinema – to now “take into account the most wide-ranging aesthetic experiences… becoming a ‘laboratory’ for different artistic languages within the larger ‘laboratory’ that the Biennale di Venezia actually is, in increasingly close touch with the other sectors”.

A couple of strong indicators about what they have in mind are that artist and filmmaker Shirin Neshat will chair the Orizzonti’s International Jury, and that curators Cecilia Alemani and Sergio Fant have been appointed programme advisors.

The submission deadline is 24 June and only world and international premieres are considered. Visit the Venice Film Festival website for more information.
