David Sylvian: Small Metal Gods, directed by Hiraki Sawa
Here Hiraki Sawa illustrates the sentiments of David Sylvian‘s track Small Metal Gods with his own tiny animated deities. The video echoes the haunting vocals of Sylvian (former frontman of new wave pop band Japan) with the imagery of miniature airplanes eerily gliding about an uninhabited apartment in Sawa’s signature minimalist style. Hiraki Sawa first film, Dwelling, first saw him experiment with this technique, using his own apartment as the domestic landscape. Sawa has since gone on to develop the style in other works, such as Migration (2003) and Going Places Sitting Down (2004).
