Suzie Templeton's Peter and the Wolf

After its sold-out debut at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall earlier this year, Peter & the Wolf Live on Stage returns this Christmas. Produced by Hugh Welchman and written and directed by Suzie Templeton, the beautiful stop-motion film won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2008.  It is performed with live music from the 64-strong Philharmonia Orchestra and features a newly-commissioned introduction by poet Simon Armitage.

Peter & the Wolf Live on Stage is a magical theatrical experience for the whole family, bringing a new generation of fans to Prokofiev’s much-loved masterpiece. In the introduction you meet the characters, each represented by an instrument of the orchestra, and Peter’s darkly magical world is brought to life before your eyes using state-of-the-art technology, as a mini camera explores a custom-built, scaled-down version of the film’s original set and models.

The film has been classified Universal and is suitable for all ages, however there are a few scenes that younger children might find scary. There is a relaxed open-door policy throughout the hour-long performance.

There are also free family workshops with musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra at 3pm and 5pm on 28 & 29 December.
