Drei Klavierstucke op. 11, Cory Archangel
Here are three videos made by artist Cory Arcangel that recreate the Three Piano Pieces, Drei Klavierstücke op.11, composed by Arnold Schoenberg in 1909, using something ubiquitous on the world wide web – footage of cats playing pianos. The films use around about 170 videos of cats and pianos taken from YouTube, that have been matched to the audio of Canadian pianist Glenn Gould playing the piece, using a software programme called Comparisonics. This piece follows on from a two-screen video installation that Cory Arcangel previously made called a couple thousand short films about Glenn Gould, that features clips of musicians taken from video-sharing sites to reconstruct note-by-note the first of Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations.
